Western state (WUE) is the Western Undergraduate Exchange, which discounts tuition for students from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaiʻi, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands (WICHE). Pick "Other state" if you're from anywhere else.
Living with family and commuting to class leaves out housing and meal plan costs.
College academic scholarships are available for the first two years of the program, renewable with 15 credits and a 3.0 GPA each semester, and depend on available funds (resident awards). The calculator only counts academic scholarships for Utah residents. Engineering Department scholarships are available for all four years, but the amount is based on individual applications, academic standing, and financial need.
Automatic freshman awards for your GPA and ACT from each school's published terms (U of U, USU, UVU, SUU, Utah Tech).

About these numbers
- All figures are published 2026-27 sticker prices for a full-time undergraduate, two semesters a year, held flat for two or four years unless you add a yearly increase. The two-year comparison sets an associate degree at Snow College against your first two years at a university. Rates were checked on October 26, 2026. Open "Check or adjust the numbers" to see the source of each one.
- Snow College figures are from the Snow College cost page and Residence Life rates. Academy Square suites require a meal plan. Snow College charges WUE students 1.5 times resident tuition.
- Snow College academic scholarships are a percentage of tuition (not fees) for the first two years, following the resident award table. Awards depend on available funds.
- Academic scholarships, at Snow College and at the universities, are only counted for Utah residents. WUE and out-of-state students see tuition without any academic scholarship; the Engineering Department scholarship and "Other scholarships & grants" amounts still apply for every residency.
- University scholarships are the automatic freshman merit awards each school publishes for a high school GPA, and ACT where the school uses it: the U of U GPA awards ($3,000 to $10,000 a year for up to 8 semesters), USU resident awards ($1,500 to $5,000 a year for 4 years), UVU resident awards, which require an ACT or SAT score, SUU resident awards ($1,000 to $4,500 a year for 8 semesters, from your GPA or ACT, whichever reaches the higher tier), and Utah Tech resident awards ($1,250 a year up to full tuition, until you reach 130 credits; the top two need an ACT score). USU's Presidential and Deans awards use an admissions index USU doesn't publish, and SUU's President's award is chosen by review, so they aren't counted. Weber State awards come from a GPA and ACT index chart, and the only chart Weber has posted is for 2024-25, so none is counted for Weber. The U of U, USU, SUU and Utah Tech tables are for students starting in fall 2027. Each award is applied to tuition and fees only, and renewals assume you keep the required GPA and credits.
- Utah State figures are from the USU cost of attendance for the Logan campus, living on campus. USU's WUE award is worth about $12,500 a year and needs a 3.0 high school GPA (USU scholarship table); below that, the calculator uses full out-of-state tuition.
- University of Utah tuition and fees are from the 2026-27 tuition and fee proposal to the Utah Board of Higher Education. Housing is the lowest first-year double on the U of U housing rates page, still marked draft. The meal plan is the lowest-priced full plan on the U of U dining plans page. The U of U's WUE discount caps tuition at 150% of the resident rate for freshmen with a 3.30 GPA or higher; below that, the calculator uses full out-of-state tuition.
- Utah Valley figures are from the UVU cost of attendance. UVU doesn't publish an on-campus housing figure there, so housing & food is its estimate for students not living with parents. UVU's WUE rate is 150% of resident tuition for students with a 3.0 unweighted GPA or higher; below that, the calculator uses full out-of-state tuition.
- Weber State figures are from the Weber State tuition and fee schedules and 2026-27 housing and meal plan rates. Weber charges a lower rate for your first 60 credits and a higher rate after that, so the calculator uses the average of the two each year, which gives the same four-year total. For two years it uses the first-60-credit rate. Weber's WUE waiver is 150% of resident tuition for students with a 2.0 GPA, but you have to apply for it and there are a limited number. Weber's closest program is a BS in Computer Science.
- Southern Utah figures are from the SUU tuition and student fee schedules. SUU doesn't post its meal plan prices, so housing & food is the on-campus estimate from the SUU cost of attendance. SUU's WUE award takes $6,000 a semester off out-of-state tuition for students with a 2.50 GPA or an 18 ACT; below both, the calculator uses full out-of-state tuition. SUU's closest program is a BS in Software Development.
- Utah Tech figures are from the Utah Tech 2026-27 tuition and fees. Housing is a shared room in Campus View Suites I from the hall rates, which are still fall 2025 prices, and the meal plan is Meal Plan C, the same pair Utah Tech uses in its own cost estimate. Utah Tech's WUE rate is 150% of resident tuition for students with a 2.50 GPA; below that, the calculator uses full out-of-state tuition. Utah Tech offers a BS in Software Engineering.
- Loan totals assume the borrowed amount is repaid in equal monthly payments after graduation. They leave out interest that builds up while you're in school and loan origination fees, so actual totals will be somewhat higher.
- Books, transportation, and personal expenses vary by student and are left out.
